TCB INC - Services
PET GROOMING
We are a full service pet grooming and boarding kennel located in a rural farm setting established in 1994.
Owner Peg Wheeler, Licensed Veterinary Technician with over 30 years in the animal care field lives on site offering tremendous comfort and security for our guests.
PET BOARDING
After being in the field of animal care for over 30 years, owner Peg Wheeler has established a philosophy of boarding care that is maintained by all on the staff of The Critter Barn. Each pet that is cared for by The Critter Barn is treated as staff would like their own pets to be treated.
BERWICK STRAY SHELTERING SERVICES
The Critter Barn has been contracted to hold stray dogs for the Town of Berwick, Maine. We will offer to them the same care and concern that we do for our boarding clients. They will, however, be kept separately. Pets that arrive showing signs of illness will be taken for veterinary examination.

We are THRILLED to announce the addition of a new, very experienced groomer, Patty Peterson, to our staff at The Critter Barn. Patty has had lots of experience grooming all breeds and having her join us allows us to accept all breeds for grooming once again. Our schedule is no longer backed up, so please give us a call if you are looking for grooming services for your pet! We will be scheduling grooming for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.
Grooming services include bathing, clipping, nail trimming, flea prevention treatments, conditioning treatments and various other services for cats and dogs. Peg taught the grooming program at the University of New Hampshire's Thompson School of Grooming for more then 5 years and has had experience grooming many, many breeds.
In addition, Peg and Patty are among the few groomers that groom cats and have had much experience handling and grooming cats. Please give us a call if you have a kitty in need of grooming!
Please call if you would like more information.
The safety and health of every pet that stays at The Critter Barn is of paramount importance. Keeping pets active and comfortable, getting them outdoors a minimum of 4 times daily and then making sure that they have a quiet, comfortable place to rest, helps to reduce the stress of being away from home as much as possible. A small staff with little turnover makes it easier to create consistently excellent care.
The entertainment of animals belonging to The Critter Barn that wander and check out our guests, is an added bonus that makes your pets stay at here more like a vacation!
We offer boarding for approximately 20-30 dogs and 10-15 cats. Our facilities include large indoor kennels, outdoor playpens, indoor/outdoor kennels and a loft area with soft lighting and television! All outdoor areas are covered to avoid too much sun or ‘weather’! This gives us the ability to give our guests plenty of outdoor time even when the weather is not the greatest!
Veterinary receipts or health certificates are required to show that vaccines, including distemper and rabies for cats, and distemper, rabies and kennel cough for dogs, are current. We DO NOT dictate that these vaccines be done yearly, but ask only that your veterinarian provides us with a statement of your conforming to their philosophy veterinarians practice standards. We recommend rabies vaccine according to state law, or every 3 years. We further recommend that distemper vaccines be done on a 2-3 year basis and perhaps less often as your pet ages. We encourage pet owners to be informed about the research in vaccination frequency for your pets.
If we do have pets we feel comfortable adopting out through The Critter Barn, we will post their pictures and stories on this site.
Please feel free to contact us if you are missing a pet, or have found a pet or think you may want to adopt one sometime!
If you are interested in donating towards the care of a homeless pet please contact us.
The dog in the picture was Louie. He came to us in the middle of a very cold winter having been abandoned in downtown Berwick. Through kind donations we have been able to provide long term care for dogs like Louie. In addition to having an infection where his collar had been left, too small, to cut into his neck and cause infection, Louie had a fast growing tumor on his head. For a long time this tumor had little affect on Louie and he stayed with us as long as he was comfortable. Eventually, when the tumor invaded critical parts of his eyes and jaw, we had to have Louie put to sleep.
In the meantime, though, we made sure Louie enjoyed what time he had left with lots of loving care and many, many treats. We tried to make up for the suffering he'd experienced previously
There are lots of options for unwanted pets. Abandoning them is NEVER an option. If you need help placing a pet, please call for help in finding the best solution.
